Nationally
In my opinion, San Diego might be the coolest city in the world. Between it’s perfect
(and I mean perfect) weather, it’s great surfing scene, and it’s laid back culture,
there is a lot that can be said for San Diego.
But that is not why we made our yearly trek to this great city. We go because we
believe in what Jason and his team are doing there. Jason and his team have a vision
to see the kingdom of God become more and more of a reality in their city.
Jason grew in San Diego and knows the city and the people well. And one night, after
talking with some of his closest friends in their kitchen, they started dreaming
about what a Gospel-centered church would like in San Diego.
Someone started to clean the sliding glass door. Another person pulled the cap off
of a dry erase marker. Their conversation erupted and transformed from simple words
into powerful intent. They began to write down what a church would look like with
them in it; with their unconventional appearances; the abstract artists and writers,
producers and engineers, singers and musicians, graphic designers and urban fashionistas.
The melting pot of culture: Latin, black, white, and Asian. People of different
backgrounds who care about the world and the community we live in. The married and
divorced, the single moms and proactive dads. The people with blue and white collars,
kids with dreams yet to discover and the seniors that society wants to forget. The
people who reflect the beauty and diversity of our city, who love God, love the
church, and who are just as lost as everyone else. Us, the people with Pagan, Catholic,
Pentecostal, Calvary Chapel, Baptist, and other roots that are all on the same spiritual
journey together.
Ideas turned into dreams. Dreams turned into convictions. And that night Ethos Church
was born.
When we met Jason and heard their story, we knew immediately that we wanted to partner
with them. Our goal is to create an ongoing partnership with them, sending teams
down to San Diego and serving both their church and their city in whatever way we
can.
