Locally

I have a scar on my hand. I got it a long, long time ago. And since I see my hands everyday, I usually don’t even think about it. I just kind of forget that it’s there.

Often time we get the same way about our city. We live in our city. We work here. We play here. We eat here, etc.

But we have scars on our city. Scars that we normally forget about. There are a whole host of forgotten people here in very own backyard. Thousands of people live without a job, house, clean clothes, … and hope everyday.

Chris Simmons has a vision for the scars of our city. He moved into South Dallas nearly 20 years ago to work at Cornerstone Baptist Church. At that time, Cornerstone was surrounded by crack houses and whore houses. He had a vision for that wounded area of our city. Everyone knew the problems. Chris knew what the answer was. Chris wanted the people of that community to see the church, the living body of Jesus Christ on earth, as the answer to all their deepest problems.

For nearly 20 years, Chris and the people of Cornerstone have faithfully served as a redemptive presence in South Dallas.

When we noticed the scars on our city, we decided to do something. We partnered with Cornerstone to serve South Dallas. Every Wednesday night at 6pm, we head down to feed the homeless a warm meal, offer job placement assistance, and give out HIV/AIDS testing.

If you are interested in actively being the hands and feet of Jesus to our city, then this opportunity is for you.
